A Prayer for the Summer Doldrums

Lord, keep us from growing weary in well-doing.

Help us envision the harvest
when all we see is a hot, dry field.

Encourage us when the workers are few,
when there is extra room in the pews,
and when the tithes are low.

Give us your vision for your coming overflow:
pressed down, shaken together and running over.

Fill us with confidence in what we hope for
and assurance about what we do not yet see.

For we know that the seeds we prune and nurture today
will bear fruit in due season.

In the tedium of these scorching summer days,
thank you for the reminding us that
the harvest is on the way.

In Jesus’ name we pray with anticipation,
Amen.
