It's amazing! I got a phone call the other night. That's not the amazing part, except that it was unexpected … and it came from Sydney, Australia! That one phone call led to a little video chat via the internet, which led to us setting up the time and date for me to lead devotions, through FaceTime, for his choir's rehearsal next week.
One minute I'm reading a book by the fire just before bed time, and the next thing I know, I'm looking at and talking with my friend on the other side of the world. And he's right there on the screen of my MacBook! I tell ya, it's amazing!
But listen, this is nothing to God. Nothing. We created the internet; He created the universe. We designed a way to chat “face to face” in the virtual world; He designed the solar system. We figured out how to store a whole lot of information on a teeny, tiny computer chip; God came up with gravity.
There's an amusing - and amazing - little portion of scripture in Genesis 1: 16. Right in the middle of describing how God created (ex nihilo: out of nothing) the sun and the moon, separating day and night, governing the seasons, days and years, lighting the entire earth, it then says, “He also made the stars.”
As in, “Oh, yeah; the stars, too … all gazillion of them.”
It's like the old joke - There was once a group of scientists who determined that they were just as smart, just as creative, and just as powerful as God Himself. So, they challenged Him to a little contest. God vs. them. Game on. They would begin by both creating … “man.”
So, God started things off by reaching down and picking up a handful of dirt. And the designated Team Captain of the scientists reached down, also, and picked up a handful of dirt.
“Oh, no, no, no!” said God. “You have to make your own dirt.”
Exactly.
