Who knew? April is home to several obscure holidays and opportunities for awareness such as International Guitar Month, National Pecan Month and Stress Awareness Month. Personally, when I'm stressed, I'm already pretty aware of it. We won't go into all that, but there are a couple of things here that just might benefit you.
Here are 4 priorities for April:
- Distribute your April – June schedule of anthems, solos, etc. By the way, are there any college students who might be home for the summer that you could include?
- Take a few minutes with your team to review what worked (and what didn't) worship-wise for this year's Holy Week and write down specific suggestions on how to improve next year's Easter experience for both musicians and congregation.
- Earth Day occurs in April. Find significant scripture passages and songs to honor the Creator all month long.
- April is also National Humor Month! Let the choir member who tells the best joke in rehearsal conduct the choir for one anthem. (Or, you could just tell them you were joking!)
Sometimes we just have to laugh … at our surroundings and at ourselves. After all, if we don't, someone's sure to do it for us. And in its proper context, let's face it, it's good for us. After all, A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. (Proverbs 17:22)
