Have you ever done that icebreaker activity where you take each letter of your first name and find another word that starts with that letter to describe yourself? Yes, it’s a little silly-- but it’s also fun and revealing.
What words would you assign to each letter in C-h-r-i-s-t-m-a-s?
Here’s my “Christmas Acrostic”—filled with verses that remind me to live in response to God’s Christmas gift every day of the year:
C is for Charity. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. (Ephesians 4:32)
H is for Humility. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. (Philippians 2:2-4)
R is for Reliance. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
I is for Intentionality. Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. (1 Peter 1:13)
S is for Sacrifice. Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. (Romans 12:1)
T is for Tenacity. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. (Galatians 6:9-10)
M is for Merriment. Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. (Philippians 4:4-5)
A is for Adoration. Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. (Psalm 95:6-7)
S is for Service. You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. (Galatians 5:13)
What words would you choose? Perhaps this would be a great activity for your choir or worship team Christmas party! Let us know what words you picked.
Merry C-h-r-is-t-m-a-s!
