It is a privilege for me to be the orchestra director for my church. The ensemble is made up of a wonderful group of people growing musically, spiritually, socially, and in number.
Naturally, we work on the musical elements – getting notes right, chords in tune, and rhythms in time. Beyond that, I have constantly taught and encouraged them to be ministers to each other and their individual worlds. In that process, we see people caring for each other both in times of need and pain as well as joy and celebration.
Being empowered to minister to each other has helped some people who might have been shy before to be more active in talking to and reaching out to others. It has been a wonderful scene to observe people coming out of their shells and finding a safe place in this group.
Then there are the numbers. When I started directing almost 6 years ago we typically had five people play in the early service and about fifteen in the second service. Now we have over 30 on the active roll and they play both services every Sunday.
When people find their place in ministry it is a great thing. What a joy it is for us to have the opportunity to lead people in worshipping the Lord and in the process growing in relationship with Him and each other. To quote the hold hymn, “What a fellowship, what a joy divine!”
God’s blessing on your fellowship this week.
