Be Still

My last few days have been travel-heavy, to the point at times I had to think about what city I was in or had arrived from. While I love travel and working on the road, the times I can simply sit down in a plane or hotel room to recover are cherished moments. It is in those quiet, solitary times that I can collect myself to “be still and know He is God.”

Our lives can be a roller coaster of events and emotions. It can be easy to get caught up in the moment and lose focus on our relationship with the Lord – to the point of no communication with Him through the day. Can you imagine spending a day with a close friend and not talking to them?

I feel like I need to apologize for ignoring Him or tuning Him out. When I make that confession, I feel embraced by the Holy Spirit and that still, small voice saying, “I was here all the time.”

I’m going to look for more of those times I can be still and sense His presence. In those private times with God, I can be away from the world and enjoy His presence. That gives me an opportunity to speak to Him and, more importantly, hear from Him. I always come out of that meditation time a better person and with a renewed spirit. I’m reminded of the chorus of an old hymn:

And He walks with me and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

May God bless you this week as you seek Him and His holy presence.
