Last evening I really needed to mow the lawn because I’m leaving town for several days. I realized this just as the sun had begun to set, so I ran to the mower and started the job.
When I was about halfway done it had gotten fairly dark, so I switched on the mower headlights. I don’t think I’ve ever used them before but they are very handy!
A few minutes later, it had become very dark, to the point even the headlights were not much help in seeing where or what I had mowed. I could see trees and bushes, but what about just staying on track and getting all the grass cut evenly?
As I rounded a corner something triggered a memory – there’s a stump right along here somewhere… I avoided it. Then – oh, there’s a limb here I always have to duck to avoid. Whew – another victory.
In the dark of the night, even with headlights on, I found myself “mowing by faith” and not by sight. Experience prompted me to remember where the obstacles were and I made it through. (And this morning the yard looks pretty good, considering.)
What a great reminder this was to me that I must also “walk by faith, and not by sight” just as the scripture teaches. Many times we can’t see far enough into the future to know what is there, but that is OK. That’s when we depend upon the Lord to guide us based on our faith in Him and his Word.
Blessings on your ministry and work this week. And please – mow before the sun goes down.
