One of my favorite phrases is both ironic and profound: “The more things change, the more they stay the same.”
Last week I was thinking about a particular church transition situation that has evolved over time. This is something I’ve watched the last couple of years, thought about, prayed about, tried to intervene, etc. I suddenly realized that while the particulars in this circumstance have changed, God’s sovereignty has not changed.
I began thinking about God’s consistency in other areas of my life. I thought of family, career, friends, etc., and once again – while some things have changed, God has not.
Situations change. Our wants change. Our requests to God may change. But God is constant. God is our Rock. He can be trusted. No matter our request, He is always there ready to meet out needs. John 14:13 says, “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
Now I have adapted my favorite phrase, a simple revision to the one I mentioned above: “The more our needs change, the more God stays the same.”
"'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.' So we say with confidence, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?' Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13: 5b-8
May this apply to something in your life so that God may speak to you. Have a blessed week.
