A few years ago my wife and I were dealing with a situation making a negative impact on our lives. We had tried to intervene in order to change the circumstance, but to no avail. Then she and I wondered if we were the ones that needed to make an adjustment in our thoughts or actions.
After months of this going back and forth on trying to intercede vs. examining our own actions I got frustrated. One day I said, “I’m getting tired of praying for my heart to change about this.”
I have since been convicted of that statement and asked forgiveness, so today I can freely share this with you.
My desire is to never get weary of asking God to change my heart, regardless of the situation. If something is going on that I cannot control, then my prayer is that God would mold my spirit to deal with it so I can minister in that area. Likewise, if I know there is something in my heart that needs adjustment, I want to be convicted and make amends with the Father.
There are many things, people and events in our lives that can discourage us and blur our spiritual vision – don’t let that happen. The late choral conductor/composer Moses Hogan used to say to choirs, “Keep your mind on Jesus, but keep your eyes on Moses.” Those are humorous and engaging words to inspire a choir (especially with a name like Moses!), but we need something for every day. I’m reminded of the hymn lyric:
Have Thine own way, Lord, have Thine own way,
Thou art the potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after Your will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.
Wait. Yield. Be still. Be molded.
Have a blessed week.
